My old ASUS P5A (K6-2) mobo and BIOS does not support always power on. Two of my newer Gigabyte mobo's both support it. I think when ATX first came out, no one thought that auto-power on is useful. Then they realized this was stupid, esp. for servers and such. Plus I think some of the early chipsets, like the ALI on my P5A, are buggy or something. In any case, I bet most newer mobo's and BIOS' support this.
