I know what you mean I've been looking for version .56 and now mame .57 is out. Hopefully, it will be updated since .57 is kind of a major release.
I just spent a couple hours attempting to merge the .55 source of vysncmame with the source for mame .56. It works but you won't have the user interface for ajusting video and rapid fire settings.
