No sound in mame

I have mame of course and game launch as my front end. and I cannot get the sounds to work on any game. I have a genaric soundblaster compatable card (it's on my motherboard, not somthing I added in) and I have mame in dos. Anyone know how I can get the sound goin? (If you ned to know I have a soyo mobo and the "sound blaster function" is enabled (for the DOS games))
