Button Colors

I will receive my Happ's order soon and I have kind of an odd question about the pushbuttons.

There is the actual button that you push, and then there's the outer ring and "stalk" which sets into the control panel. Can these two be separated? I'm asking because I was going to design a 4-player panel with six buttons per player, where the color of the button itself is the same for each of a player's six buttons, but the outer rings would be different colors. This would add a little "flash" to the design, and would also enable the player to make a visual association of the button with that button's function (so they don't have six buttons that all look the same.)

I thought about painting the outer rings, but I think that might look cheesy... So it'd be nice if I could separate the outer ring from the pushbutton and match them up in the color combinations I'm looking for... Can this be done, or would I have to cut open the ring?
