Hagstrom's KE24 vs. LP24

I'm a newbie and have been reading the message boards and checking out projects for several weeks now.

I'm planning my own Mame project.

I've been looking at the different encoders that Hagstroms has. It seems to me that there isn't a whole lot of difference between the KE24 and the LP24, if you are planning on using it as a matrix. I've looked at Mr Salty's site and am planning on using his 2X22 matrix plan for wiring my controls.

If I don't want or need RS232 support either, are their any features in the KE24 that I would need?
