Well, extra viewing area isn't my main concern, my main concern is getting an S-Video TV in my cabinet when I only have 24" of width to play with. I couldn't find ANY 25" or 27" TV's which clocked in anything less than 24.5" so I thought removing the shell could get me on the road to happiness.
Thanks for the other tips though, especially about the video cards. I was thinking about getting an ATI but I think I'll look elsewhere.
