My ATI Radeon 7500 produces an excellent TV image. It can even do 1024x768, and while text is tough to read at this high resolution, the image is spectacular with images, video, and games. If you're on a budget, take a look at an ATI Radeon 7200 or VE- they have the same quality of the 7500 just without the 3D acceleration.

: : I am 99% sure I am going to use an S-Video TV for my cabinet. I've done some searching and still have a few unanswered questions...

: : 1. Do most people leave the TV intact in its plastic shell, or disassemble it like I've seen done with computer monitors? I haven't seen too many project pages which use TV's, and on those I did see, there hasn't been much detail on how the TV was installed in the cabinet. If the shell is removed, can you get extra viewable area, like you can on many CRT monitors?

: : 2. Are there games for which televisions just don't provide adequate resolution? There seem to be some games in the 640 and even 800 lines range in one direction... If I remember, TV resolution is 512x384 or something right? I would imagine these games look somewhat crappy on a TV... Any experiences?

: : 3. Finally, any recommendations on some compact 25" or 27" TV's with S-Video input would be appreciated. I found some old messages with some suggestions, but most people don't include model numbers. I plan on hitting the local stores, but if anyone has any recommended models, I'd appreciate it.

: 1.) TV's aren't really meant to be taken out of there cases. They typically don't have an adequate chassis for free support. You most likely won't achieve additional viewing area by removing the case, even though the tube extends beyond it. Feel free to try, though.

: 2.) Depends on how you use the TV. If you connect the TV to a video card w/ TV-out, then you are likely to achieve 800x600 or at least 640x480. You may be surprised at how good MAME looks on a TV. I also have a WG 7k series running through a Trident 9880 and displaying Windows quite nicely (horizontal hold adjustment is critical....). The TV displays every bit as well as the arcade monitor.

: 3.) If you can, look for a 27". From my experience, most 27's have better comb filters than 25's. A good TV may increase your success with poor TV-out cards (like the ATI All-in-Wonder 128 (beware)). Just tonight I had the opportunity to test a new ATI All-in-Wonder against my aging TNT w/ tv-out. What a disappointment the ATI was! It always appeared that scanlines were at about 200% and there was noticable tearing with scrolling graphics, regardless of vsynce or triplebuffer settings. My trusty TNT showed superior graphics regardless of resolution. BTW, my TNT uses a brooktree tv-out. I think most of the people posting about how great the ATI's are probably haven't tried much else.... ;P
