I've managed to do exactly what you want to do with my DC and KE72. It works like this:
1) Go buy a Mad Catz DC controller or two. They are cheap and super easy to hack, having holes that are very easy to solder wire into. You've probably seen CDVision's page (if not, find it. v. good pics and explanation)
2) I had my KE72 wired up to the buttons and sticks already. The ground wire from each button went to a grounding strip, which was attached back to one of the ground connections on the KE72 (all the ground connections on the KE72 are identical).
3) Same thing with the DC controller. I just connected the ground from the controller to the ground strip, and spliced together the wiring for each button from the KE72 and DC controller.
4) This was just a test, but it works pretty well, except that the keyboard is still getting keypresses when you use the DC, and if you unplug the keyboard you get flaky DC input. So I found a keyboard locking freeware program that I run before I start the DC (since the DC's sound has to go through my soundcard the way I have things set up). Strangely, this is exactly the opposite case from Ray of the previously mentioned Butler 2001 (ie, he had to unplug the DC to use the keyboard before wiring a switch).
5) I have plans to rewire everything using a switch that I've already got, but it works now so why mess with it?

If this is unclear, email me and I can maybe make a diagram or something.
