: WOWWWW that sounds really cool! I used shockwave for my frontend also because I wanted to have a close integration between my cab and the fe...

: I also think a database is the way to go now. In my cabinet I did not need it but lately I use my frontend also on my main pc for other emulators beside mame and it is just much easier to find things with a database...Are you planning onm making yours available to others...I have it working partially allready with v12 but if I could reuse yours that would be even better beacuse i am no prefessional when it comes to databases ;-)

: Glad to hear that flash will have more of the Shockwave features, the fact that you can not on the fly change images was the amin reason I choose (two yerars ago) to use Director and not Flash to make my frontend...

: Peter

Yeah, we thought about director, but flash animations was more of what we wants. And the fact that flash can use vector graphics and pixel fonts.
Since mess is so simular to mame We probably will make it work with mess. No plans right now. One emulator is enough. BUT since it is database driven it will be easier to find what you need.

I plan on putting just the executable on my site for awhile. If we go completely flash (if flash 6 is done correctly) then I'll but the source for this version out with the vb code. I'm a big open source fan, but right now we don;t want to release this since alot of it other flash people don't know how to do and my friend wants to keep that knowledge to himself for abit so he can get some contracts over other people.
you learn quickly the limitations of flash with this project. My friend loves it. He had an interview with someone and showed him our project. The guy was into mame too. So he knew exactly what we were trying. He loved our design. But since he runs mac he was bummed. We REALLY would like to make a cross platform fe. But right now that is really hard to AND make it look not so static.
Oh well, If I can get a job soon I think I'll look into getting an ibook (after I get my new car first).
When we get it to where we are satified we'll put the current version out there so you can look at it. We do want people to see it. The more exposure there is, the more people we can get to see it, the more they like it, the more we can start our own company. I hate working for someone else. Between him and me (graphic designer and software engineer) we can make an awesome website team. Database driven with killer looks. But in order for people to except you you need example work.

If you want to see what my friend can do on his own he made the demo for a former company I worked for. Check it out: http://www.envoda.com/vpf/viziq.html
If you don;t understand what the software does, don;t worry, it is meant for big business networks and network admins will understand it. A sumamry is it prioritizes netowrk traffic for big business. So important apps and users get more bandwidth when needed to efficiently use available bandwidth.

When you watch the flash file, notice little thing, like in the fourth section, Viziq Value, notice the little animation int he background. There's stuff like that in my frontend. That's why a snapshot doesn't do it justice. Oh yeah, he was given only 2-3 weeks to work on it. If he had one more week it would have been really cool. He showed me what he would have done different he he had the time.

The company went under, it might be a little slow. They are currently trying to sell that software (and hopefully us engineers that worked on it). That's why I said if I get a job, I'm currently unemployed. It sucks. If you know anyone looking to buy something like that:) We had customers, they all loved it, we just ran out of money. We did something no other solution did, we could prioritize traffic down to user, not just machine. That way it didn't matter what machine the user was logged on to. And the next version of the software was going to be real time, you could see exactly how your network was being used in real time. So ther was two selling points, the big brother part that we have to know EVERYTHING that goes on the network because the other selling point and main point of the software was it made your network run smoother with just a software solution, no hardware like competitors.
Oh, sorry for that long explaination. I really liked the concept of that software. Fortune 500s were loving it. If we had about a year more funding we could start making profit and have patenerships maybe like IBM and Cisco. It was only a 2-3 year old startup. But since the software is ahead of its time investors don't understand its value.
