Hmm, got me thinking...Can you just get a 'replacement' tray? Quick search turned up...

http://www.pcmods.com/details.asp?ProdID=288 (no picture, but I think it's what we are talking about)
http://www.addtronics.com/part-list.shtml (several, but tray and backplane are seperate)

within the first 10 hits on google for "motherboard tray"

: : Hi,
: : I've just ended the construction of my cab...I now want to place every computer elements into it.
: : But for a question of place, it won't be in the computer case...everything must be taken out and place on the wooden board.

: : What do I have to use for the Motherboard...I suppose it can't be screwed directly on the wood ?
: : What can I use for the different other elements (HD, CD, floppy) is there individual chassis to mount them in, then screw that chassis on the wood ?

: : Thanks for any kind response (or any other idea),

: For the motherboard, I would find a case with a slide out tray. These cases have a tray that you mount the motherboard to, insert the cards, etc (and screw them down to the metal riser of the tray), and then slide into the rest of case. The advantage here is that your add-in cards (video, sound, nic, etc) won't be flopping around unsupported. The last case I bought like this was made by InWin, check it out at: http://www.in-win.com/icon/a500mec.jpg

: Or, you can get the mounting feet from Happs (www.happcontrols.com). They are called "PCB MOUNTING FEET", and can be found under Amusements/Accessories. They keep a space under the motherboard for better airflow, etc.

: As for the drives, I would use a 3 1/2" to 5 1/4" adapter. These are two little brackets that let you mound a HD into a 5 1/4" case opening. They are only like $3, and would let you mount the drives off of the wood a bit, again for better airflow.

: This is how I'm mounting my stuff in my cab, anyways. :)
