Bah I like the buttons spread apart like that! They probably could be just a tiny bit closer together, but since I don't play many games that use more than 3 buttons it works perfect for me.
the curve on the base, I got by gluing a bunch of little pieces of the material together and then sanding it down.. aparently you can bend the material I was using but you have to heat it up and it's kinda complicated..
