Does mame56.exe produce a mame56.ini file or does it use the same mame.ini file as the R58 Mame.exe?

Also, when MAME R59 comes out, If I call my mameR59 file mame.exe, rename my mame.exe (R58) to mame58.exe and leave mame.ini alone, will the new mame.exe add any new settings to the mame.ini file or do I need to delete and let mame recreate it to get the new settings added.
